Moroccan agency: Coast Guard rescues 344 illegal immigrants

The official Moroccan agency, MAP, reported that the country's Royal Navy forces recently rescued more than 340 migrants.

The agency quoted a military source as saying that "Coast Guard units of the Royal Navy, which were conducting a naval patrol in the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Basin, provided, between July 10 and 14 this year, assistance to 344 candidates for illegal immigration."

The source added that most of them hail from sub-Saharan Africa, and that "including women and children who were facing difficulties on board traditional boats."

The same source added, "These people, who were rescued, received first aid on board the Royal Navy units, before being returned to the nearby ports in the Kingdom and handed over to the Royal Gendarmerie to carry out the procedures in place."
