River Plate tied 1-1 with Argentinos in the first leg of the Libertadores Cup round of 16

River Plate tied 1-1 with Argentinos Juniors in the first leg of the 16th round of the Libertadores Continental Football Championship at the Monumental Stadium in Buenos Aires.

Matias Suarez scored a first goal for River Plate in the 10th minute, but Gabriel Hauche equalized in the 40th minute before the end of the first half.

Argentinos surprised with an attacking squad against River Plate led by Gabriel Alfalos, so that coach Marcelo Gallardo's team failed to win and help him put a foot in the quarter-finals.

The decisive return meeting between the two teams is expected to take place on the evening of Wednesday, July 21, at Diego Armando Maradona Stadium.

The winner of this battle will face the winner of the quarter-finals, the winner of Argentina's Boca Juniors and Brazil's Atlético Mineiro.

It is worth noting that River Plate won the continental title twice in the last six years, in 2018 at the expense of Boca Juniors and in 2015 at the expense of Mexico's Unal Tigres, and qualified for the final in the previous edition, but lost it to compatriot Flamengo.
