The Chinese Ministry of Defense: We reject the negative statements of the Australian Defense Minister about our country

The Chinese Ministry of National Defense reiterated its strong opposition to the negative statements made by Australian Defense Minister Peter Dutton about China.

Ministry of National Defense spokesman Wu Qian said that Dutton's recent provocative remarks fully revealed the Cold War mentality and ideological bias, which does not only contradict the ongoing trend of world peace, development and cooperation. It also harms regional peace and stability, he said, adding that it is extremely dangerous and irresponsible to fabricate the so-called "Chinese threat" and make baseless accusations against China.

Wu Qian reiterated China's adherence to the approach of peaceful development and its resolute pursuit of a national defense policy of defensive nature, adding that his country does not pose a threat to any country, and its military development does not target any country.

On issues related to the South China Sea, Wu Qian stressed that China has indisputable sovereignty over the islands in the South China Sea and their adjacent waters.
